When you hear the name Color Me Badd it's most likely you think of their big hit "I Wanna Sex You Up." Or maybe you think of their ballad "I Adore Mi Amor." You probably also throw them into a category of forgotten one hit wonders who are often brought up in conversation as a joke. Although I haven't revisited their catalogue of music in quite a while (other than the previously mentioned songs and their other 90s staple "All 4 Love), the one song that comes to mind whenever I think of Color Me Badd is their little known 1996 track, "Sexual Capacity."
I tend to frequently bring this song up when talking about under the radar tracks, slept on tracks, forgotten tracks, or songs most people have never heard of. Back in 1996 I became enthralled with Hip Hop and R&B music. I watched the daily music video shows on MTV and BET, and recorded tons of music videos on VHS (which I still have stored). One song that didn't get too much airplay was "Sexual Capacity." The production on this track is fitting for the time it was released, the Summer of 1996. I'm going to get into the greatness of 1996 eventually in its own sub-category on this site but that's for another day. Laid back, bouncy, and smooth all the same time, the song was also associated with the Demi Moore movie "Striptease." The music video cuts in scenes from the movie as well but for some reason looking at track listings for the sdtk, the song is not included. Maybe it was a bonus track, maybe agreements fell thru, who knows. Looking further into the song itself it's also notable that the song was written by Robin Thicke before he had released anything to the mainstream. After learning that fun fact it's very easy to see how it could have been a Robin Thicke song.
1996 was comprised of many quality songs. Here's one that deserves some more attention.
